Harmony House Theatre
This is our family at home during a photo shoot by Marcia Roberts Portraits, January, 2011. There's Melanie, Kris, Joel (10 months), Michael (3), Jacquelyn (7), Mikaela (17) and Jenna (14). Here's our story! (Written Spring, 2008)

We are the proud owners of the former 1846 Hunter River United Church and what is now Harmony House Theatre, located in the heart of the community of Hunter River, PEI. We were married there when it was a church and 3 of our 4 children were baptized there. Needless to say, the building itself holds a few precious memories for us, and is an awesome location for a performance venue to boot! It's great to be able to preserve 19814 Route 2 and begin an exciting journey in the performing arts realm. Kris wears many hats including Hands-on Renovations Coordinator and Sound Tech, while I manage the day-to-day activities, programming, promotions and whatever else needs to get done! I decided to take this career journey because it's something I'm definitely passionate about and because it is also a great fit for our family. The kids all benefit from having a Mom who is able to work flexible hours and they're fortunate to be a part of something this special.

Kris has played a leading role in planning and renovating the venue and ensuring it is equipped with all the right amenities including sound and lighting equipment and comfortable theatre seating, to name a couple. He has also taken great pride in creating an atmosphere that people will enjoy visiting time and again. He pays such close attention to detail with every choice in building material and always has his eyes and ears peeled for just the right beam or structure that he thinks will enhance his "work of art"! Kris is an experienced home builder (see the feature on the building of our house in the Winter 2007 edition of "East Coast Living" Magazine!), pharmacist, and long-time musician who has three professionally produced CDs to his credit, PEI and ECMA nominations as well as tours within the Maritimes. He's a busy lad, to say the least! CHECK OUT THIS LINK! www.cairnsmedia.com . HERE YOU'LL FIND THE PROFILE ON KRIS IN AN ARTICLE CALLED "HAMMERED HARD, CHURCH REFORMS INTO CONCERT HALL".

I have a Bachelor of Public Relations degree and have worked in Advertising, as a Pharmaceutical Sales Representative in Cape Breton, PEI and Halifax, NS before moving to PEI almost five years ago to be an Office Manager/PR Consultant for a local respiratory therapy company. In my past work, I utilized my degree in PR as a consultant for the Celtic Colours International Festival while living in Cape Breton. This position involved artist relations, liaison with various venue operators, media relations and gaining and overall appreciation for and knowledge of the entertainment industry, both in the Maritimes and abroad.

I grew up in a musical family and community, playing guitar since the age of 5, later French Horn and Trumpet, being involved in school musicals and drama, and most recently taking up the fiddle. My long-standing love of the arts and people have led me to become a part-time fiddle instructor to local school children for 4 years and a member of the Queens County Fiddlers.

We truly feel that there is an opportunity to positively contribute to the culture of PEI by offering many performers a suitable and profitable venue, as well as provide audiences with a convenient location to enjoy a range of entertainment year-round. It is hoped that the rejuvenation of this historic site will continually contribute to the quality of life and the social and economic vitality of Hunter River and surrounding communities.

Thanks for listening!
